Medical Assistant - Newport News, Virginia Must have at least 6+ months of medical assistant experience Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our dermatology team. This role offers a unique opportunity to expand your skills in a supportive and dynamic environment. You will play a critical role in patient care and administrative functions, ensuring smooth operations in our dermatology practice. Responsibilities + Perform patient intake, including recording medical history accurately in electronic health records. + Measure and record patient vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, and weight. + Maintain temperature logs and adhere to QA processes and OSHA policies. + Assist with scribing doctor's notes during patient consultations. + Complete pharmaceutical prior authorizations as needed. + Conduct phone triage, including communication with pharmacies for patient medication refills. + Perform Medicare Annual Wellness Visits. + Set up, clean, and stock exam rooms before and after patient visits. + Input patient lab and radiology orders electronically. Essential Skills + Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant certification or registration is required. + Experience with patient intake to exam rooms is preferred. + At least 6 months to 1 year of experience is ideal, but recent graduates with certification will be considered. + Proficiency in triage and electronic health record systems. + Experience with phlebotomy is a plus. + Adaptability to new electronic medical record systems. Work Environment The work schedule is typically from 7:30/7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, usually extending to 5 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break. The practice sees a patient volume of 30-40 patients a day between two providers. The role requires travel to both Newport News and Virginia Beach offices, with mileage expenses reimbursed. The work schedule to Virginia Beach includes every other Tuesday, every Thursday, and every third Friday, with some weeks heavier in VB. There are no weekend or night shifts, making it a great environment to develop skills in dermatology. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
