Job Summary

As part of the Structural and Climate Policies Division of the Research Department, the selected candidate will support the division’s work on structural reforms, macro-structural topics (such as Artificial Intelligence, labor markets, firm dynamics), and climate policies. The candidate will also support the integration of research results in the multilateral surveillance products of the Fund and in the context of Fund Article IVs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • collect and analyze economic data;
  • create and maintain databases;
  • write computer programs;
  • conduct econometric work by estimating empirical models;
  • produce summary tables and charts.

    Minimum qualifications

    Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in economics, finance, statistics or computer science, or a related field; or a university degree, or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience; or a minimum of two years of relevant experience at Grade A8, or equivalent, is required.

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    • demonstrated experience working with large and complex economic databases, such as those involving micro data (e.g., labor force surveys, Orbis, Patstat);
    • knowledge of computer and statistical software such as Excel, Word, Stata, R, Matlab and EViews (working knowledge of Python would be an advantage);
    • solid programming experience in the context of econometric work;
    • an understanding of macroeconomic concepts and relationships;
    • accuracy and attention to detail, resourcefulness and flexibility;
    • excellent verbal and written communication skills;
    • ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others;
    • motivation to learn new approaches and techniques;
    • capacity to work well under pressure when different requests must be dealt with simultaneously and be able to produce outputs in a timely manner.

      This is a one-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability and continuous business need.
