Job Description

Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced live-in caregiver to provide 24-hour support to an elderly couple in their home in the DC metro area. The role involves both hands-on personal care for the wife, who is wheelchair-dependent and requires two-person assistance for transfers, and household and companionship support for the husband, who is independent in his personal care but requires assistance with meals, housekeeping, and transportation. This is a live-in position with private room and board provided. Key Responsibilities Personal Care for Wife * Assist with safe transfers into and out of bed, wheelchair, and chair (always as part of a two-person transfer team, either with another aide or a family member). * Provide assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and other activities of daily living. * Monitor for safety, prevent falls, and use proper lifting techniques or equipment (e.g., gait belt, mechanical lift if available). * Support mobility and repositioning to prevent discomfort or pressure sores. Support for Husband * Prepare and serve nutritious meals according to dietary needs and preferences. * Perform light housekeeping including laundry, tidying, and cleaning of common areas. * Provide transportation or accompany to appointments, errands, and social activities as needed (valid driver's license preferred). . General Household and Care Duties * Maintain a safe, clean, and organized household environment. * Administer or remind of medications as directed by family or healthcare providers. * Keep daily notes on care activities, observations, and any changes in health or mood. * Collaborate with family members, visiting nurses, therapists, and other caregivers to ensure continuity of care. Schedule and Living Arrangements * Live-in position: private bedroom provided. * Work schedule will be based on 5-6 days per week, with agreed-upon time off. * Family will arrange additional coverage to ensure adequate support during caregiver's rest days and for two-person transfers. Qualifications * Minimum 1 year of experience as a caregiver for seniors, preferably with wheelchair-bound clients. * CPR/First Aid certified. * Strong skills in safe transfer and mobility assistance. * Ability to cook healthy meals. * Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred. * Excellent communication skills, patience, and a caring, respectful attitude. * Must be reliable, trustworthy, and comfortable working as part of a care team with family and other aides.
